Reminder :

	* The sound speed in the code units is 0.25.
	* Slow shocks are in blue.
	* Fast shocks are red.
	* Rotational discontinuities are green.
	* Parker sheets are cyan.

Info :

Distributions are no longer normalised, the numbers on the y axis are therefore numbers of scans. I kept only the best identifications we have (purest wave decompositions). It just makes distributions cleaner and analysis simpler.

Discussing the paper

Present : EF, PL, FL, AL, AVG, TR

21 February 2019

Edith's agenda :

- Last time, many of us were away. We started to discuss the paper by McCourt et al. 2018 MNRAS 473, 5407 but we had so many open questions that we said we would continue next thursday. So I hope that those who were not there will have gone through the paper, deeply enough, before we meet and that Pierre L. will be willing to trigger the discussion again follwing his
PhD work.

In the literature (mainly covered by Uriel Frisch's book), you will find three ways to characterise intermittency:

	* PDFs of increments x_l: P(x_l), which display fatter wings at small lags l.
	* Scaling of structure functions: <x_l^0p> ~ C_p x_L^p l^tau(p) at small l, or at every l depending on the source. The function tau(p) is said to characterise intermittency.

Abstract of the ERC project MIST

The discovery of molecules in the early universe is a challenging providence. Molecules unveil the truly cold universe in which stars form and their rich versatility provides unique diagnostics to unravel the ”relative importance of purely gravitational effects and gas dynamical effects involving dissipation and radiative cooling”, recognized 40 years ago by White and Rees to be a central issue in theories of galaxy formation. Molecules also reveal that cosmic t…

The MIST team

The MIST team gathers researchers with very different and remarkably complementary fields of competence.

Edith Falgarone (PI) (Emeritus Director of Research, CNRS) is an expert on the physics of the interstellar medium and star formation, with a particular emphasis on turbulence and magnetic fields. She has a broad experience in millimetre and sub-millimetre molecular line observations. She has a decades-long expertise in leading many original studies to disclose the signatures o…
